چکیده

Accurate detection and quantification of coronary artery stenoses is fundamental in correct patient diagnosis and optimal treatment planning. Central to detection and quantification is the correct estimation of lumen in the coronary vessel. Here, we describe a method for accurate lumen segmentation in CTA and present results of an early prototype for stenosis detection and quantification for a variety of datasets. For the detection, a sensitivity of 72% and a PPV of 17% is obtained as compared to QCA, while a sensitivity of 57% and a PPV of 18% is achieved as compared to CTA. The stenosis degree is estimated with an absolute average difference of 49% as compared to QCA, and a weighted kappa value of -0.15 is obtained as compared to CTA. A Dice of 73% and 69% is reported for lumen segmentation of healthy and diseased vessel segments respectively.

Automatic Stenoses Detection, Quantification and Lumen Segmentation of the Coronary Arteries using a Two Point Centerline Extraction Scheme

Accurate detection and quantification of stenotic regions in coronary arteries are an essential requirement for treatment planning. We present a method that automatically detects and quantifies the stenoses in the coronary arteries from CTA images. Firstly centerlines were accurately extracted using a two point minimum cost path approach and subsequently refined to be used as an initialization ...

Standardized evaluation framework for evaluating coronary artery stenosis detection, stenosis quantification and lumen segmentation algorithms in computed tomography angiography

Though conventional coronary angiography (CCA) has been the standard of reference for diagnosing coronary artery disease in the past decades, computed tomography angiography (CTA) has rapidly emerged, and is nowadays widely used in clinical practice. Here, we introduce a standardized evaluation framework to reliably evaluate and compare the performance of the algorithms devised to detect and qu...

Lumen segmentation and stenosis quantification of atherosclerotic carotid arteries in CTA utilizing a centerline intensity prior.

PURPOSE The degree of stenosis is an important biomarker in assessing the severity of cardiovascular disease. The purpose of our work is to develop and evaluate a semiautomatic method for carotid lumen segmentation and subsequent carotid artery stenosis quantification in CTA images. METHODS The authors present a semiautomatic stenosis detection and quantification method following lumen segmen...

Improving accuracy in coronary lumen segmentation via explicit calcium exclusion, learning-based ray detection and surface optimization

Invasive cardiac angiography (catheterization) is still the standard in clinical practice for diagnosing coronary artery disease (CAD) but it involves a high amount of risk and cost. New generations of CT scanners can acquire high-quality images of coronary arteries which allow for an accurate identification and delineation of stenoses. Recently, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation ha...

Quantification of three-dimensional computed tomography angiography for evaluating coronary luminal stenosis using digital subtraction angiography as the standard of reference

OBJECTIVE We sought to evaluate the accuracy of quantitative three-dimensional (3D) CT angiography (CTA) for the assessment of coronary luminal stenosis using digital subtraction angiography (DSA) as the standard of reference. METHOD Twenty-three patients with 54 lesions were referred for CTA followed by DSA. The CTA scans were performed with 256-slice spiral CT. 3D CTA were reconstructed fro...
